No último post, falamos sobre o uso do both, either e neither. Para complementar o assunto, vamos aprender a usar “both of”, “neither of” e “either of”. Normalmente, utilizamos both of…/ neither of…/ either of… + the/ these / my / Tom’s. Veja abaixo alguns exemplos:
I can’t log into either of my e-mail accounts. [Não consigo entrar nas minhas contas de e-mail.]
Neither of the restaurants we went to was (ou were) expensive. [Nenhum dos dois restaurantes que fomos era caro.]
It could have been either of John’s cats. [Pode ter sido qualquer um dos gatos do John.]
Podemos usar também both of…/ neither of…/ either of… + us / you / them.
Can either of you speak English? [Algum de vocês (dois) fala inglês?]
I can’t believe both of them are the same age. [Eu não acredito que eles (dois) tenham a mesma idade].
Neither of us have the time to help you. [Nenhum de nós (dois) temos tempo de te ajudar.]
Both of you are right. [Vocês dois estão certos.]
Você também pode dizer both… and… / neither… nor… / either… or… para expressar um e outro, nem um nem outro, ou um ou outro. Veja como:
Both Chris and Pat were late. [Ambos, Chris e Pat, estavam atrasados.]
Neither Chris nor Pat came to the party. [Nem o Chris, nem a Pat vieram à festa.]
Either you apologize or I’ll never talk to you again. [Ou você se desculpa, ou eu nunca mais falo com você.]
